To all Yellowknife Education District No. 1 (YK1) families:

Re: Busing Update

YK1 continues to work diligently and collaboratively with First Transit, Yellowknife Catholic Schools (YCS), and Commission scolaire francophone des Territories du Nord-Ouest (CSFTNO) to identify short-term and long-term solutions to current busing challenges in Yellowknife.

Workforce challenges have forced First Transit to cancel two of its student transportation routes (10 and 12) until further notice. Route 9 was also cancelled in mid-January but service resumed on January 23, 2023. It remains to be seen when service will resume for routes 10 and 12.

We recognize that these disruptions are impacting many of our families, and we will continue to work until a solution is found. All parties have met on multiple occasions to discuss immediate and long-term options, including those put forward by parents and community members. We will continue to provide regular busing updates, and communicate any potential solutions as soon as possible.
