Kelsey Howard was born and raised in North Vancouver, BC. Her parents met in Yellowknife in the late 1960s and eventually made the move down south to raise her and her two siblings in Vancouver. Some of the fondest memories of her youth are listening to her parents tell stories of their adventures in the north as a young couple. Since both of her parents were teachers, summer holidays were spent outside, whether it was picking cherries in the orchard behind her grandparent's house in Oliver, B.C, to hiking trips in B.C.'s backcountry. Upon the completion of her Bachelor of Education in high school social studies with a minor in Environmental Education at Simon Fraser University, she chose to venture north to pursue her own northern adventures. This is now her eighth year teaching at Range Lake North School and her seventh year teaching middle school. She thoroughly enjoys working with the middle school crowd and feels very fortunate to work with a very dynamic, supportive, and collaborative team at RLN and she looks forward to establishing an outdoor inquiry into her everyday practice.
