Godi Enı̨thł’è - 16 au 23 septembre, 2022

tf2

We have had another great week at École Įtł’ǫ̀, especially with the nice weather. Students have had lots of opportunities to enjoy the play equiment and our school’s natural setting. We would like to thank all families who came to our school’s Open House/Meet the Teacher night on Thursday. Now that schools are returning to a more normal routine, we look forward to organizing and hosting a number of community events of the course of the year. Thank you for visiting this week’s news posting. Here is what we have upcoming on the calendar:

Photo Day - Monday September 19th

Bring your best smile to school on Monday. Lifetouch is coming to our school starting first thing in the morning and taking individual pictures. Class pictures and retakes are scheduled for mid-February. There was a delay in getting order forms so if you haven't had yours yet, it should be coming to you soon.

Lunchtime Clubs Return

We are starting up some of our lunchtime clubs next week. The meetings for these two clubs will be to introduce students to the club and its rules, and get a sense of how many intend to participate. These clubs are intended to run through to the end of the year. Next week we will be starting with:

  • Pokémon Club - 11:30 in the school kitchen (Room 103) - Students can bring their meals so that they can spend all of the lunch hour enjoying the club. The club's focus will be on learning and playing the Card Game. Because of the club's focus on playing, and not trading, it is intended for students in Grades 3 to 5. Once the club is up and running, we will look into the possibility of offering the club for younger students as well.
  • Chess Club - 11:30 in the school kitchen (Room 103) - Students can bring their meals so that they can spend lunch hour participating in the club. It is initially open to students in Grades 3 to 5 of all chess abilities.

Representing our School - Community Survey

École Įtł’ǫ̀ has been working with local artist, Miranda Currie, to develop graphics and a logo for our school. Our intention is for our graphics, and particularly our logo, to capture the aspirations for our school and its students. We want to hear from you! Please take a few moments to complete Miranda's survey (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LVTYSLQ) We are asking for your responses no later than Friday, September 23rd so that Miranda can give them careful consideration.

National Truth and Reconciliation Day

Please remember that there is no school on Friday, September 30th to allow our community to observe National Truth and Reconciliation Day. Our school will have an assembly right after lunch on the 29th during which we will have the Dene Drummers and a Feed the Fire ceremony. We are asking staff and students to wear something orange on that day in recognition of this significant day.

Tłįchǫ Alphabet for Computers

Since opening École Įtl’ǫ̀, we have had a few questions from the community about installing the Tłįchǫ text their own computers. The font packages are available for Windows and Mac. They can be downloaded from https://denefont.com/

Nancy Wise - Thursday September 22nd

Respected French Immersion educator Nancy Wise is offering a workshop to École Įtł’ǫ̀ parents at 7:00 PM (Yellowknife Time) on Thursday, September 22nd. Nancy's presentation is titled 'Increasing your child's opportunity for success in French Immersion'. As Nancy is based in Toronto, this presentation will take place online via Google Meet. We hope that you can join us on Thursday at the following link: https://meet.google.com/qkb-evtw-dov.

Terry Fox Walk - Friday, September 23rd

Our annual Terry Fox walk will take place on Friday, September 23rd, immediately following the last recess of the day. In the days preceeding, teachers are planning various activities with their students so that they can understand Terry's work and his legacy. On Friday, students will take a neighbourhood walk. We have also asked Bylaw Enforcement to come by and help ensure everyone's safety. We are collecting Loonies and Toonies, with all proceeds going to the Terry Fox Foundation. Please have your children hand their donations in to their classroom teacher. Of course, families are more than welcome to join us on our walk. We do ask that you let your child's classroom teacher know if you intend to come along with us.
